Politically this past week has been a disaster for the "Untied" States. I don't need to go into all the headlines, I'm sure you've seen them. Today is Independence Day, and what used to be a symbolic holiday has become an ironic one. I want my brother home and safe, and I want this for other families as well. Those who pay the price for the arrogance of the elite usually have nothing to gain in the conflict. Rubens, who was wrapped up in the diplomatic intrigues of Europe, had this to say of an English king hellbent on war, "When I think of the caprice and arrogance of Buckingham...I am filled with pity for the young king who, through bad advice, is about to hurl himself and his kingdom into such a terrible plight. It is easy to start a war when one wants, but wars are not so easily ended." (Rubens by Gilles Neret pg 54.)
